JVIR Musculoskeletal Interventions Collection
Editor's Note:
One of the many advantages of electronic publication is the ability to identify previously published manuscripts with a particular focus, and in this manner, establish virtual collections of articles, obviating the need for interested readers to search these out individually. This electronic collection focuses on an important maturing area of interest to many interventional radiologists.
From its inception, the Society of Interventional Radiology has been a world leader in spine and musculoskeletal intervention. This collection comprises peer-reviewed articles published in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology since 2008 and includes seminal pioneering experience in cements, devices, implants, radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation, and so forth. In this collection, you will see how interventional radiologists led a revolution in spine intervention, breaking with 100 years of masonry, carpentry, and civil engineering and turning a compression fracture treatment into an embolization with a polymeric bone cement. That initial minimalism often gets lost over time as industry iterates the innovation of the inventive radiologist into something more profitable. We can see this happening in these papers too. Many of these areas are now done, the major moments of creativity are over, and its time for us to look elsewhere in bone intervention for new areas to innovate. Lets get on with it.
Readers are encouraged to provide feedback regarding this collection to JVIR@SIRweb.org.
